Build Tech that Cares (for Pets and People!)

Are you a passionate problem-solver who loves coding and is eager to grow your career? At Pets at Home – the UK’s leading pet care specialist – we’re looking for a forward-thinking Software Engineer to join our dynamic Agile teams!

This is more than just a dev job. It's an opportunity to work on modern microservices, flex your knowledge of cloud technologies like Azure and gain hands-on experience with NoSQL/non-relational databases – all while building solutions that help pets live happy, healthy lives.

If you're excited about making an impact, growing your skills, and being part of something meaningful, we’d love to hear from you.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Designing and developing microservices that power our pet care platform
  • Applying solid coding principles to build scalable and maintainable services
  • Collaborating in an Agile environment with product teams and stakeholders
  • Writing automated unit tests to ensure quality and reliability
  • Documenting your work in a way that’s clear, concise and useful

What You’ll Bring:

  • 4+ years of software development experience with DotNet / DotNet Core (C#)
  • A strong grasp of service-oriented architecture and microservices principles
  • Awareness and some hands-on exposure to Microsoft Azure
  • Foundational understanding of non-relational databases (NoSQL) – such as Cosmos DB, MongoDB, or similar
  • A passion for your craft, and a desire to grow your career in modern software engineering
  • Great communication skills – with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical minds
  • A genuine interest in working in a collaborative, purpose-driven environment

Bonus Points (Nice to Have):

  • Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD), CI/CD practices and DevOps workflows
  • Familiarity with Agile tools and cloud-native development best practices

Our Tech Stack:

.Net Core | C# | REST API | Web API | Azure | DevOps | Agile | TDD | Unit Testing | SOLID Principles | NoSQL

Why Join the Pack?

  • 10% Annual Bonus Potential
  • 28 Days Holiday (rises to 30 after two years) + Bank Holidays
  • Extra day off for your birthday
  • Pension Scheme to help you plan for the future
  • Discounted Healthcare Options
  • Share Scheme – Be a part of our success
  • Great colleague discounts across the Pets at Home family
  • A flexible, supportive culture that celebrates individuality and creativity

Work with Heart:

At Pets at Home, our tech doesn’t just run systems – it helps improve the lives of pets and the people who care for them. Whether you’re a seasoned engineer or on the rise, if you have the drive to learn, grow and make an impact, we want to hear from you.

Even if you don’t tick every box, your unique perspective and passion could be just what our team needs. Apply now and take the next step in a career that’s rewarding in every sense.

We’re inspired by pets. They see the best in people – and so do we. We celebrate diversity, champion inclusion and encourage everyone to bring their true selves to work.

Visa sponsorship and relocation support aren’t available for this role
