Job objectives and responsibilities

· To manage and support an individual site or multiple sites in all aspects of operational training with particular reference to DFT Maritime sector.

· Evaluate individual development needs.

· Implement various training methods (e.g. coaching, hands on, etc)

· Identifying and assessing future and current training needs

· Identifying development and implement training requirements to upskill officers.

· Designing of a training plan

· Conduct effective induction training program.

· Monitor and evaluate performance and level of training.

· Maintain a keen understanding of training trends, developments and best practices.

· Produce reports of training received and future training requirements.

Main duties

· To undertake the role of Training and development officer for the allocated site(s) and ensure that the site staff are carrying out their duties effectively and efficiently, in accordance with Company Policies and Procedures and DFT maritime procedures.

· To act as first point of contact for Site, Training needs.

· To deliver the agreed services and accurately record information relating to training.

· Liaise with the main site team and client and executive team to provide them with the confidence that the site is meeting our Exceptional Everyday ethos and that all officers are fully trained and competent.

· Identify and manage potential risk and opportunities.

· Be aware of and monitor the training program in regard to the KPIS that effect training.

· To ensure all officers carry out their roles professionally and to the required standard as per the training provided.

· Assist the site manager and also Regional Manager in the design and fulfilment of new training packages that are required.

· Site reporting requirements advising on the status of training completed, required and any issues.

· Implement and carryout t penetration tests on the site and staff to check on their training.

· To be responsible for the compliance of training conducted on the site and ensure that this sis recorded and logged.

· Ensure all training is conducted as per DFT regulations and Mitie policies and procedures.

· To undertake any other related duties which are within the job holder's capability, according to the needs of the business.

Person Specification

· Proven track record as a training officer/Manger desirable

· Track record in designing and executing successful training programs.

· Familiarity with traditional and modern training methods (mentoring, coaching, on-the job or in classroom training, workshops, simulations etc.

· Excellent communication skills, influencing skills.

· Ability to plan, multitask and manage time effectively.

· Must be flexible as training could be required evenings, weekends etc based upon the staff availability.

· Strong writing and record keeping ability for reports and training manuals.

· Ability to quickly build credible relationships with the officers, management team and clients, and challenge when necessary.

· The ability to work on own initiative.

· Flexible, adaptable and a collaborator.

· PC literate with Outlook, Excel, and Word skills.

· Ideally from a port or Maritime background (but not essential)

· DFT Maritime knowledge would be an advantage (but not essential)

· X-ray equipment usage would be desirable (but not essential)

· Must hold an SIA LICENSE
