Are you a forward thinking, passionate and experienced veterinary nurse who is looking for an opportunity to develop their leadership skills within a large and dynamic team?

We are looking for an experienced RVN to join the team on a fixed 12 months contract; as Deputy Head Nurse. We are looking for someone who is happy to lead by example, has great communication and organisational skills and is looking to work with a positive and passionate team. As a nurse with at least 3-4 years RVN experience and a medical bias, you will assist with the daily co-ordination of the nursing team and contribute to the smooth and efficient running of the day.

Previous experience of working in a senior role or leading and supporting a large team is desirable. This role is primarily clinical and ‘on the shop floor’.

Duties include:

  • Working alongside and co-ordinating with the medical and surgical teams to ensure efficient running of the day
  • Point of contact for urgent queries from the non-clinical team and referrals
  • Conducting team meetings
  • Assisting the Head Nurse with return to work meetings and absence recording
  • Teaching and supporting the nursing team’s clinical development
  • Support with clinical induction processes
  • Ensuring day to day processes are followed
  • Updating the clinical team on new protocols and procedure changes

We are a busy 24- hour hospital with multiple advanced facilities including in house CT, MRI, hydrotherapy and physiotherapy. We offer emergency cover for several local clinics so we do see a high case load of emergency and critical care cases. We also conduct a wide range of soft tissue & orthopaedic surgeries. We have cat, dog and exotic wards as well as outpatients and isolation units, we also have dedicated dental area with dental x-ray. We are very passionate about pain control and anaesthesia including regional anaesthesia and have recently acquired our zero-pain practice accreditation.

Education and support for our team is important to us. We regularly offer EMS placements and are a veterinary nursing training practice. It’s important to us that all our colleagues work together to provide a supportive learning environment for all members of our team. Clinical coaching is a requirement of the role and full training will be provided.

Our current rota is 40 hours a week across 4 days with a set day off each week and 1:4 weekends. You will be supported in your role by our Head Veterinary Nurse and Head of Clinical Services.

We offer an attractive salary package up to £36,000 p/a depending on experience. We also offer a range of enhanced benefits such as subsidised private healthcare, income protection & colleague discounts.
