Purpose of Job

To oversee the delivery of all gas works across my client's Repairs and Maintenance housing stock, ensuring safe working practices, high technical standards, and quality of work so that all properties are compliant, certified, and maintained to required standards.

To lead and motivate a team of gas colleagues, providing expert technical support, monitoring performance and productivity, while ensuring qualifications, training, and support are consistently maintained.

To advocate for customer service excellence, leading by example to embed a customer-focused approach. Collaborating with key stakeholders to ensure timely and effective resolution of customer issues.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee all gas works, including solid fuel and renewable heating systems, across the operational area.

  • Provide technical advice, guidance, and support to Gas Engineers to ensure duties are carried out safely and compliantly.

  • Keep stakeholders informed of work progress and actions taken. Escalate more complex issues to management as necessary.

  • Manage compliance and oversee delivery from specialist contractors working on behalf of my client. Monitor to ensure SLA compliance and quality.

  • Prepare and maintain performance and financial reports for the Senior Gas Operations Manager.

  • Demonstrate supervisory or managerial skills within gas operations or similar roles, ideally within housing or in-house contractor settings.

  • Ensure all operations meet or exceed performance criteria and KPIs as required by the business.

  • Monitor daily performance, carry out reviews, generate progress reports, and take action where needed.

  • Ensure all Gas Engineers work safely in compliance with Gas Safe regulations and Health & Safety policies. Conduct on-site technical assessments and keep accurate compliance records.

  • Take ownership of resolving customer feedback and complaints promptly and effectively within the area of responsibility.

  • Optimize use of trade staff to meet service requirements, regularly reviewing balance, efficiency, and productivity of the team.

  • Support and develop all team members proactively.

  • Ensure adequate out-of-hours cover, including participation in the rota and providing escalation support.

  • Provide support to, and deputize for, the Senior Gas Operations Manager as required.

  • Perform any other duties appropriate to the role.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required

Essential:

  • Previous supervisory or management experience in gas operations or a similar role within housing or maintenance services.

  • ACS qualifications (minimum: CCN1, CEN1, HTR1, CKR1).

  • City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Domestic Heating.

  • Certificate in Unvented Hot Water Storage Systems.

  • Strong knowledge of maintenance contracting, housing component replacement, heating and hot water systems, and control systems.

  • Understanding of relevant sections of the Building Regulations.

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities without compromising service quality.

  • Strong skills in cost management, budget reconciliation, and performance monitoring.

  • Excellent communication skills with stakeholders, customers, and team members.

Desirable:

  • Experience in renewable heating technologies.

  • Familiarity with managing external contractors.

Other Requirements
  • Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle.

  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently to customer properties, including those in areas not serviced by public transport.

  • Demonstration of client values and customer-focused professionalism in all areas of work.
