As we continue to build our team in support of our vision to be the world’s best and most trusted mobility company, the Corporate Legal Group is excited to announce the opening for a Corporate Counsel (Backfill).

 

This is an exciting opportunity for a 7+ year qualified lawyer with experience in developing lawyers who support our global business operations, commercial sales efforts and procurement activities and be an integral part of our global collaborative legal team. This position is office-based, headquartered in Egham, Surrey, near London. The successful candidate will be a member of our worldwide Legal Group. We deliver our legal services through a highly matrixed, cross-departmental functional teams focused on particular specialisms, including Commercial Sales, Procurement, Real Estate, Marketing, Intellectual Property, Technology/SaaS/PaaS agreements, Data Protection (connected vehicles), M&A, Litigation, ESG, Electrification and new technology.

 

This position will provide critical support to various aspects of the business, primarily supporting Enterprise Mobility’s commercial sales efforts, global business operations, and marketing activities with emphasis on digital marketing and online transactions. Primary responsibilities include drafting, reviewing, editing and negotiating a broad range of agreements, regulatory review and analysis, and providing guidance on general corporate and preventative law initiatives along with management of outside counsel.

With the convergence of mobility solutions, the advent of internet-connected vehicles and roll-out of alternative fuelled and electric vehicles, the next 5 years promises to re-write the landscape in traditional vehicle mobility. As the industry evolves, we’ll be embracing new types of business that will require lawyers who are comfortable learning and advising on new areas and coming up with creative solutions to the issues of the day. We’re looking for a lawyer that can think through problems, navigate the legal and regulatory environment, and find ways to facilitate all this change.

Responsibilities

  • Assume lead role in structuring, drafting, reviewing, and negotiating business-critical contracts and ensuring they properly protect the company’s interests and objectives
  • Partner with internal stakeholders and other business partners on continual process improvements and guidelines
  • Clearly communicate (in writing or verbally) and advise decision makers on the risks and benefits of negotiating options and contractual provisions
  • Create and update templates and clause libraries to meet evolving business objectives, minimize friction and protect the organization’s interests
  • Collaborate with various internal departments in identifying, managing and assisting in the resolution of legal issues in a manner consistent with the company’s business philosophy and strategy, and in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Provide timely and accurate interpretations of the various laws and regulations affecting the company’s businesses to senior management and operating personnel; keep them apprised of the types of action that require legal consideration and provide internal guidance regarding potential legal risk
  • Manage and assist clients with resolving all legal issues pertaining to various corporate, transactional, and regulatory matters in a manner consistent with the organization’s business philosophy and strategy, and in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Partner with assigned functional areas and operating units to help drive the company’s business model and execute its strategies

Qualifications

  • Qualification as a lawyer in the UK or Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school in the United States (including admission to at least one state Bar in the US)
  • Seven (7) or more years of relevant experience in a business law firm or in a corporate law department with a proven record of professional excellence and achievement
  • Significant research and transactional law experience, including drafting and negotiating complex contracts
  • Fluent in English; additional language skills (Spanish, French or German) are a plus
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Products (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • High level of professionalism and integrity; strong ethical standards, and work ethic.
  • An understanding and sensitivity to maintaining confidential information.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Comfortable working independently or in a team and agility and judgment to balance multiple requests and competing priorities.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, including verbal communication skills and writing & drafting skills.
    • High level of attention to detail and process
  • Proven leadership skills, including demonstrated experience developing others.
