Eden Brown Synergy is currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Qualified Social Worker to join the Duty & Assessment Service at Wigan Council. This is a locum contract offering a dynamic and supportive working environment for professionals with recent frontline experience.

???? Role Overview:

You will be joining one of five well-structured Duty Teams, working in a five-week rota, meaning you will be on duty only one week in every five. This role is ideal for social workers who thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy variety, and want to focus on short-term, impactful interventions without long-term case holding.

???? Location: Wigan, Greater Manchester

???? Contract: Full-Time, Locum
???? Working Pattern: Hybrid (Office-based one week in five, flexible working available)
???? Team Structure: Team Manager, Advanced Practitioner & Senior Social Worker support

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct timely assessments for children and families at the first point of contact
  • Carry out Section 17, Section 47 and initial risk assessments
  • Prepare high-quality reports and recommendations
  • Coordinate interventions and support plans to safeguard children
  • Work in partnership with agencies including schools, police, and health
  • Transfer cases post-assessment to appropriate long-term teams based on outcomes

???? What We're Looking For:

  • Minimum 2 years' recent experience in a UK Duty & Assessment Team - Essential
  • Degree or Diploma in Social Work & registered with Social Work England
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Confident in making threshold decisions and developing immediate safeguarding plans
  • Excellent organisational and documentation abilities (Liquid Logic experience desirable)
  • Ability to build rapport quickly and effectively with families in crisis
  • Car driver with access to own vehicle preferred
