Doncaster City Council - Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) Vacancy

Doncaster City Council is currently seeking an experienced Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to join their team. This is a vital role ensuring the safety, wellbeing, and care planning of Looked After Children, through robust oversight and high-quality statutory reviews.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Chair statutory reviews for Looked After Children and ensure their voice is heard and represented.

  • Lead pre-review meetings with children, families, and professionals to encourage positive contributions.

  • Track review outcomes and hold professionals accountable for implementing agreed actions.

  • Ensure effective and updated care plans based on detailed assessments.

  • Address delays and invoke the Dispute Resolution process where necessary, including potential referrals to Cafcass.

  • Safeguard against drift in planning and ensure service delivery meets each child's needs.

  • Promote placements close to home and in line with Best Value principles.

  • Identify gaps in assessment or service provision and advocate for the use of independent advocates where appropriate.

  • Monitor Doncaster's corporate parenting responsibilities and overall performance for Looked After Children.

  • Contribute to training, service improvement, data reporting, and strategic planning within the IRO service.

  • Represent Doncaster at regional IRO network meetings when required.

Essential Requirements:

  • Significant post-qualifying experience in children's social work

  • Strong understanding of statutory requirements and care planning processes for Looked After Children

  • Experience of chairing complex meetings and effective challenge to improve outcomes

  • Excellent communication and multi-agency collaboration skills
