We are seeking an experienced Locum Social Worker to join our dynamic Public Law Team at Cafcass in Central London. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children and families by ensuring that the voice of the child is at the heart of all court proceedings.

As part of the Public Law Team, you will manage a caseload of complex care proceedings, undertake thorough assessments, and provide clear, evidence-based recommendations to the family courts. You will work closely with children, families, and partner agencies, always upholding the paramountcy principle to safeguard the welfare of children.

Key Responsibilities

Complete high-quality Section 7, Section 31, and Section 37 reports within court-directed timescales.

Represent children's best interests in family court proceedings, including giving professional evidence under cross-examination.

Undertake direct work with children and families, ensuring the child's voice is central to all recommendations.

Liaise effectively with multi-agency partners, including local authorities, legal representatives, and other professionals.

Maintain accurate case records in line with statutory requirements and organisational standards.

Requirements

Qualified Social Worker with current registration with Social Work England.

Substantial experience in a court team or similar (Public Law, Safeguarding, or Looked After Children).

In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Children Act 1989/2004, Adoption and Children Act 2002, and the Public Law Outline (PLO).

Excellent assessment, analytical, and written communication skills.

Ability to work under pressure and meet strict court deadlines while maintaining a child-focused approach.
