Rotherham Council is seeking a Team Manager with strong leadership experience to join our Duty & Assessment Team on a maternity cover basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of a well-established and forward-thinking management team in a local authority rated Good by Ofsted.

About the Role

You will be leading a busy front-line social work team that handles all incoming referrals, conducts child and family assessments, and responds to safeguarding concerns. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring timely and effective decision-making to keep children safe and secure the best outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide operational management and oversight of the Duty & Assessment Team

  • Support social workers managing referrals, Section 47 investigations, and Child in Need assessments

  • Ensure timely case allocation and effective case progression

  • Maintain high-quality supervision, performance management, and reflective practice

  • Promote a strong safeguarding culture and collaborative working with partner agencies

Requirements

  • Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England

  • Substantial experience in managing Duty, Assessment, or similar front-line children's teams

  • Strong leadership, risk management, and decision-making skills

  • Proven ability to work in fast-paced environments and support high-performing teams
