Nottingham City Council is seeking experienced and proactive Social Workers to join their First Response Team. This is a vital front-door service responsible for assessing and responding to referrals concerning children in need of protection and support.

About the Role

As a First Response Social Worker, you will be part of a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team handling incoming contacts and referrals through the Children and Families (CIF) Duty and MASH pathways. You will assess risk, carry out statutory investigations, and ensure that appropriate and timely decisions are made to safeguard children and young people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to new referrals through CIF Duty and MASH

  • Undertake Section 47 investigations and assessments in line with statutory guidelines

  • Carry out initial visits, make threshold decisions, and determine the level of intervention required

  • Prepare high-quality reports and statements for court proceedings, when required

  • Work closely with partner agencies to ensure a coordinated approach to safeguarding

  • Manage and prioritise a dynamic caseload, maintaining clear and timely records

  • Independently manage your own diary to complete visits, assessments, and statutory responsibilities within required timescales

What We're Looking For

  • Qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England

  • Proven frontline experience in a First Response, MASH, or Duty team

  • Strong knowledge of Section 47 investigations, threshold decision-making, and court work

  • Ability to work confidently under pressure in a busy, high-risk environment

  • Strong organisational and communication skills

  • A child-centred approach and commitment to multi-agency working
