Leicestershire County Council is inviting applications for Social Workers to join our First Response Children's Duty Team. This front-line, high-impact role is central to safeguarding children and families at their point of contact with Children's Social Care.

About the Team

Our First Response service, based at County Hall in Glenfield, includes screening and assessment functions. The team acts as the first point of contact, handling incoming referrals and making urgent and proportionate safeguarding decisions. The service is recognised for its positive impact and child-focused structure.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the first responder for referrals, completing Initial Screenings and gathering essential information

• Conduct urgent Initial Assessments, including Section 47 enquiries, risk assessments, and safety planning

• Decide on the most appropriate pathway-escalation, CIN support, or early help interventions-within statutory timeframes

• Collaborate effectively with partner agencies including police, health, education, and Early Help teams

• Maintain accurate and timely electronic records in line with statutory requirements

• Work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines

Person Specification

• Fully qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England

• Minimum of 3 years post-qualifying experience, with experience in First Response or a similar front-door service highly desirable

• Excellent decision-making, analytical, and communication skills

• Resilience under pressure and ability to manage competing demands with efficiency

• Commitment to child-centered, strengths-based practice with a trauma-informed, equitable approach
