Leeds City Council - Child Protection Conference Chair (Initial 6-Week Contract)

Leeds City Council is looking for a skilled and experienced Child Protection Chair to join their safeguarding team on an initial 6-week contract. This is a critical role responsible for chairing Initial and Review Child Protection Conferences and ensuring that effective multi-agency safeguarding plans are in place and progressed.

Key Responsibilities:

• Chair Initial and Review Child Protection Conferences in accordance with statutory guidance, legislation, and local procedures

• Ensure and promote high-quality multi-agency practice for children and young people most at risk

• Provide independent scrutiny of operational safeguarding and planning activities

• Offer expert advice and consultation to Social Workers managing complex child protection cases

• Monitor child protection plans to ensure they are appropriate, timely, and do not drift

Required Skills and Experience:

• Strong knowledge of legislation and statutory guidance relevant to children's services (e.g., Working Together to Safeguard Children)

• Extensive experience in child protection, risk assessment, and social work methodologies

• Sound understanding of child development, safeguarding practice, and the socio-economic factors affecting families

• Confident in writing coherent, analytical, and grammatically correct reports

• Ability to work independently, manage pressure, and make well-evidenced decisions in complex cases

• Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to challenge and influence practice constructively

• A clear commitment to equal opportunities and anti-oppressive practice

Qualifications:

• Social Work qualification (Degree in Social Work, DipSW or equivalent)

• Registered with Social Work England

• Extensive post-qualifying experience within Child Protection services

• Prior experience of working as a Child Protection Chair is essential
