About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Senior Engineering Manager to lead the delivery of engineering and estates services at Alder Hey Children's Hospital. This vital role ensures compliance with statutory regulations, PFI contracts, and NHS healthcare technical standards (HTMs/HBNs).
Combining strategic oversight, technical leadership, and day-to-day operational management, you will play a key role in maintaining safe, efficient, and high-performing building and engineering services that directly impact patient care and staff wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide leadership and expert guidance across engineering and estates operations.
* Ensure compliance with all contractual and statutory obligations related to engineering systems and services.
* Act as Authorised Person (AP) in line with company's Site AP Matrix.
* Interpret and implement complex technical documentation and NHS guidance.
* Develop long-term strategic and risk management plans for estate operations.
* Lead on emergency preparedness and participate in the Estates on-call rota.
* Coordinate condition surveys and maintenance programmes (PPM & lifecycle).
* Drive innovation and continuous improvement across all estates services.
* Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external bodies, including contractors, NHS Estates, HSE, and emergency services.
* Lead a skilled engineering team, supporting staff development, recruitment, and performance monitoring.
* Take a senior role in safeguarding responsibilities as part of a children's healthcare environment.
What We're Looking For
* Relevant FM/Engineering qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, IWFM).
* Extensive experience in engineering leadership, ideally in healthcare/PFI.
* Authorised Person (AP) qualifications desirable.
* Strong knowledge of HTMs, HBNs, and technical healthcare standards.
* Proven track record managing compliance and mitigating technical risk.
* Skilled in interpreting and delivering against audit and performance frameworks.
* Confident communicator with the ability to influence at all levels.
* Analytical thinker with a proactive and hands-on approach to problem solving.
* Committed to high standards in safety, service, and staff development.
