This role combines case management, collaborative engagement, and statutory compliance-ensuring children and young people are in suitable education placements with the right support in place.

Key Responsibilities

As a SEND Case Officer, you will:

  • Lead on the drafting, amending, and reviewing of EHC plans in co-production with families and professionals.
  • Coordinate and attend EHC planning and review meetings, ensuring they are outcome-focused and person-centred.
  • Liaise with education settings, health, and social care professionals to ensure contributions are timely and of high quality.
  • Provide clear, written reports and maintain accurate digital records.
  • Negotiate educational placements and ensure provision is aligned with the needs and aspirations of each child or young person.
  • Support the oversight of children in receipt of Exceptional Needs Grants (ENG).
  • Handle sensitive and potentially contentious situations, always ensuring compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and national legislation.
  • Provide mentoring and support to SENCos and other partners regarding SEND statutory duties and best practice.
  • Contribute to the coordination of panels relating to local SEND processes.
  • Use data and feedback to identify trends and drive quality improvements.

About You

We are looking for someone with:

  • Sound knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and the Children and Families Act 2014.
  • Proven experience in EHC plan development and statutory assessment processes.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with a commitment to child and family voice.
  • Experience working collaboratively with multi-agency professionals.
  • Confidence in navigating complex casework and making evidence-based decisions.
  • A proactive and reflective approach to improving practice and outcomes.

Working Environment

This role is community-based for at least 60% of the working pattern, supporting practice across Camden's SEND Local Area and building meaningful relationships with families and services. Flexible and hybrid working is supported.
