Driver’s Mate (Airlock Colleague)

Rushden (NN10 8RP)

£116.10 per shift,  minimum guaranteed 1 shift per week

At Pets, our aim is to give the nation’s pets what they need to be at their ball-chasing, tail-wagging best. Because we will not rest until every spaniel has a squeezy toy. Every calico has a cat tree. Every rabbit has a run. We are motivated to find the best talent in the Logistics & Distribution industry. Right now, we are looking for Driver’s Mates to join our transport team.

The Role

Working with the driver in a 44-ton HGV vehicle, you will make product deliveries into stores overnight, and assume full responsibility for ensuring that the stores are securely locked, following the documented store requirements for pallet positioning etc. This is an enjoyable role where standards and security are priority, but much of your night will be travelling together with the driver, so good conversation is a must! The successful candidate will have good spatial awareness, be a keen problem solver and enjoy working through the night.

Start times vary by day, but on average start at 15:00-19:00 with an average shift length of 8-12 hours depending on the route.

We are looking for candidates who can start as soon as possible (immediate starts available) joining an already established team.

Your Responsibilities

  • Working alongside our 3rd party drivers to make store deliveries.
  • To hold store keys whilst on shift and alarm codes for all the stores on the delivery run
  • To gain safe and secure access to all stores on the run
  • After palletised stock is presented to you at the delivery door, manoeuvre stock into position in store.
  • To secure the premises after the delivery has been dropped.
  • Know and apply the health and safety and security procedures.
  • Function as key-holder on behalf of Pets at Home Ltd
  • To check the pallet counts against the delivery documents and report any variances, on the driver’s paperwork.
  • Ensure that the security of the store is not compromised.
  • To aid in ensuring that deliveries are made on time, reporting any variances on the driver’s paperwork.
  • To ensure that any issues with keys/alarms are reported on time.
  • Ensure standards are being met and maintained.
  • Awareness, safety, and well-being of others in line with Company procedures and requirements on safe working practices

You will attend each of the stores on the Airlock route and receive full training on the entry and exit routines including the risk assessment, safe system of work, setting of alarm codes, and use of the alarm panel.

What you will get in return

  • Attractive rates of pay.
  • Annual Leave (including Bank holidays), with an increase after 2 years continuous service.
  • An extra day’s holiday when it is your birthday.
  • Stakeholder pension plan
  • Personal Health Insurance scheme (if in Pension Scheme)
  • Life assurance
  • 20% Pets at Home discount scheme after 12 weeks service
  • Pets’ “Treats” voluntary benefits package
