Job Title : Site Engineer - Groundworks / Civils - St Austell
Location: One project site in St Austell, Cornwall
Rate: Negotiable Day Rate (Self-Employed / CIS)
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: Ongoing
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm
Requirements: Must have own survey kit (Leica or compatible), laptop, and transport

The Opportunity

We are seeking a freelance Site Engineer to join a reputable groundworks subcontractor on a residential housing development in St Austell. This single-site role is ideal for a self-sufficient engineer who wants stability, autonomy, and a consistent workload on a well-run site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Setting out for drainage, foundations, roads, and external works
  • Interpreting drawings and specifications accurately
  • Liaising closely with the site team to support construction progress
  • Completing as-built surveys, QA records, and site diaries
  • Using your own Leica or compatible survey kit and laptop with AutoCAD
  • Managing work to programme with minimal supervision

Required Qualifications & Certifications

  • HNC / HND / Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • CSCS card (Engineering or Professional level preferred)
  • SMSTS or SSSTS (desirable but not essential)
  • First Aid at Work (desirable)
  • AutoCAD proficiency
  • Full UK Driving Licence and own vehicle

What We're Looking For

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a Site/Setting Out Engineer role
  • Solid understanding of residential groundworks and civil infrastructure
  • Ability to work independently on a live site
  • Excellent attention to detail and professional approach
  • Based within commutable distance.
