Locum Social Worker - Private Law - Cafcass London

Location: London
Duration: Ongoing locum contract
Service: Public Law (Family Court Advisory and Support Service)

Working Pattern: Full-time (37 hours/week) | Hybrid Working Available

The Opportunity:
Cafcass is looking for an experienced and child-focused Locum Social Worker to join its Public Law team in London as a Family Court Adviser (FCA).
In this vital role, you will represent children's best interests in care proceedings brought by local authorities, ensuring their voice is heard and their welfare safeguarded in complex and often high-risk situations.

Key Responsibilities:

Act as a Children's Guardian in Public Law proceedings under Section 31 of the Children Act 1989

Provide independent social work analysis and make evidence-based recommendations to the family courts

Conduct direct work with children to understand their wishes and feelings

Review local authority plans and assessments for children

Prepare high-quality reports for court, including initial and final advice

Attend and contribute to hearings, providing expert oral evidence when required

Liaise effectively with local authorities, legal professionals, and other key stakeholders

Essential Requirements:

Social Work England registration

Minimum 3 years' post-qualifying experience in children's services, including court work

Strong understanding of Public Law proceedings, safeguarding, and permanence planning

Confident working independently in a court-based setting

Excellent report writing and analytical skills
