Position: Maintenance & Cleaning Operative
Contracted Hours: 37 hours per week, including regular evening/weekend shifts
Location: Taunton

About the Role:
We're looking for a dedicated and proactive individual to join our team as a Maintenance & Cleaning Operative. You'll play a key role in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of Taunton's public facilities, including public toilets, pavilions, and other community assets. This role will have a direct impact on the town's environmental standards, cleanliness, and overall well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Unlock, clean, inspect, and carry out minor repairs to public toilets and pavilions.

  • Maintain the cleanliness and accessibility of these areas to ensure they're always in top condition.

  • Respond to graffiti, flyposting, littering, and other maintenance issues as they arise.

  • Carry out routine maintenance and safety checks (water temperature, emergency lights, gas/water/electricity meters, etc.).

  • Assist with town council events, helping with setup, litter picking, and other tasks.

  • Use the council's IT systems for reporting issues, training, and keeping records.

  • Ensure the council's vehicles, tools, and equipment are well-maintained and clean.

  • Maintain safety standards with health & safety training, risk assessments, and PPE.

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in cleaning and maintenance roles.

  • Knowledge of health & safety legislation and COSHH.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Basic IT skills (Outlook, Teams, etc.).

  • Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders, including local police and community organisations.

Other Requirements:

  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.

  • Willingness to attend training courses (e.g., First Aid, Road Closures, Health & Safety).

  • A positive, proactive attitude to service delivery.

  • Valid driver's license (vehicle user role).
