Principal - Associate Building Physics Engineer
Up to £75k
London

A leading multidisciplinary design practice is looking for a talented and experienced Principal - Associate Building Physics Engineer to take a technical leadership role within their London sustainability and environmental design team.

This is a fantastic opportunity to shape the performance and sustainability strategy of diverse, design-led projects-while working closely with architects, clients, and other engineering disciplines to influence outcomes from concept through to delivery.

The Role
As the technical lead for building physics, you will:
* Deliver and oversee dynamic thermal modelling, overheating analysis, and energy compliance assessments
* Advise design teams and clients on passive design strategies, operational energy, and performance-led design
* Guide the integration of building physics into early concept work, detailed design, and construction stages
* Manage project deliverables and act as a mentor and team lead for junior engineers
* Add value by spotting opportunities to improve building performance, reduce energy use, and support sustainable outcomes
* Represent the practice externally in meetings, workshops, and industry forums
While the primary focus of the role is building physics, knowledge or interest in broader sustainability areas (e.g., Whole Life Carbon, certification, Net Zero strategy) would be welcomed.

About You
* Strong technical expertise in building performance analysis, ideally using IES-VE or similar tools
* Proven experience working on complex, multidisciplinary design projects
* Confident communicator, comfortable engaging directly with clients, architects, and design teams
* Leadership skills with the ability to mentor and guide other engineers
* Collaborative, solutions-focused, and passionate about driving sustainable outcomes
* Previous experience at Principal or Associate level (or ready to step up into that role)

Why Join?
* Influence award-winning, high-profile projects with a leading design consultancy
* Take ownership as the technical lead in building physics and shape project strategies
* Work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment where design and sustainability go hand in hand
* Enjoy a flexible working culture, comprehensive benefits, and strong career progression opportunities
