About the Role

We are looking for a skilled and reliable Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) Technician to join our Estates & Facilities team at Central Middlesex University Hospital.

In this vital role, you will carry out planned and reactive maintenance, installations, and repairs on a range of building services systems. This is a full-time, Monday to Friday (8am - 5pm) position, offering stability, work-life balance, and the opportunity to work in a critical NHS environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical and electrical maintenance, repairs, and installation work across hospital facilities.

  • Assist in refurbishment and capital works projects, ensuring safety and efficiency.

  • Maintain and repair HVAC systems, piped medical gases, steam equipment, and gas appliances.

  • Respond quickly to faults and equipment breakdowns.

  • Conduct Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) and prepare systems for inspections.

  • Carry out fabrication work using drills, lathes, and welding tools where necessary.

  • Comply with statutory safety regulations (e.g. BS 7671) and internal health & safety procedures.

  • Provide support and technical guidance to apprentices and junior team members.

  • Participate in the on-call rota (typically 1 in 4/5 weeks, including weekends and bank holidays).

  • Attend training to maintain required qualifications and develop skills.

Requirements

Level 3 qualification in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
✅ At least 3 years' experience in facilities/building services maintenance
✅ Strong understanding of HVAC, gas systems, electrical installations, and plumbing
✅ Comfortable using fabrication tools (e.g., drills, welders, lathes)
✅ Good communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities
✅ Willing to participate in out-of-hours on-call rota on a scheduled basis
