Group Mechanical Engineer

As the Group Mechanical Engineer, your role will be to make sure all mechanical systems and equipment across the sites are running safely, efficiently, and in line with manufacturer's guidelines and health & safety regulations.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine servicing and checks on mechanical systems.

  • Diagnose faults by observing machines in operation, listening for issues, and using specialist measuring or testing tools.

  • Assemble, install, and fix pipework and plumbing systems to maintain proper water flow and drainage.

  • Inspect plant room machinery to ensure optimal and safe performance.

  • Plan and carry out scheduled maintenance and servicing, which may occasionally fall outside standard working hours.

  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns or malfunctions and inform the Head of Department.

  • Repair or swap out faulty mechanical parts to restore system performance.

  • Keep track of parts and equipment, managing stock levels through procurement channels.

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following health and safety procedures at all times.

  • Accurately log and report all maintenance activity according to company protocols.

  • Be flexible to respond to emergency call-outs as required.

Experience & Skills Required:

  • Solid background in welding, fabrication, plumbing, and mechanical repairs.

  • Able to read and understand technical mechanical diagrams and drawings.

  • Competent using maintenance tracking or scheduling software.

  • Basic understanding of electrical systems and how to read associated schematics.

  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance, including work on boilers and plumbing.

  • Strong knowledge of key systems like generators, water treatment units, air conditioning, and HVAC.

  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Dependable, proactive, and adaptable to changing work demands.

Qualifications:

  • BSc or HNC in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).

  • BTEC Level 3 or higher in Maintenance Engineering or NVQ Level 2 in Plumbing (or equivalent certification).
