We are currently seeking an experienced and dedicated SEND Resolution Officer to join the Special Educational Needs Team at Calderdale Council.
In this role, you will play a key part in reducing the Local Authority's exposure to tribunal appeals by promoting early resolution and mediation in disputes around Education, Health, and Care (EHC) plans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on complex SEN casework, using negotiation and mediation skills with families, schools, and multi-disciplinary professionals.

  • Provide expert advice to the SEN service on all matters relating to SEND Tribunals (SENDIST).

  • Represent the Local Authority in resolution meetings and at SEND Tribunals.

  • Influence early mediation strategies to prevent escalation to formal legal processes.

  • Ensure accuracy of data systems and reports related to SEN case management.

  • Lead improvements across the SEN team to reduce the risk of appeals, complaints, and judicial reviews.

Essential Requirements:

  • GCSEs including Maths and English (Grade C/4 or above).

  • Professional qualification in Education, Health, Social Care or equivalent experience.

  • In-depth knowledge of current SEN legislation, reforms, and statutory procedures.

  • Extensive experience managing complex SEND casework, including Tribunal preparation.

  • Experience in complaint handling, multi-agency working, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Strong ICT skills for data tracking and performance monitoring.

Desirable:

  • Working knowledge of the Capita system.

  • Familiarity with related legislation (Children Act, safeguarding, Adult Social Care).
