About the role:

We are currently recruiting for an Electrical Technical Support Manager to join our waste division at Thames Water. you can be based at a number of our Sewage Network sites, depending on your location, but will be expected to travel as and when required.

As the successful candidate, your role will be to lead a team of Technical Support Engineers providing all-around technical support to the Electrical Services team across process operations and Capital Delivery. This would include the overall responsibility to ensure that the installation of significant electrical assets is controlled by adequate arrangements for construction, commissioning and handover, in accordance with the TWUL asset standards.

The accountability for the delivery of directly managed projects by the team in accordance with the asset standards is an essential aspect of this role. The effectiveness and success of this role would require frequent engagement with the key stakeholders from Operations, Engineering, Capital Delivery and Health Safety and Wellbeing functions.

Your team will be actively involved in the frontline operation and maintenance of the electrical assets, require a continuous level of technical support in resolving problems, implementing solutions, delivering asset upgrade programmes and investigating unsafe or undesirable incidents.

What you’ll be doing as the Electrical Technical Support Manager

  • Lead in the provision of technical support resources to engage and advise on the operation and maintenance of electrical systems. Provide input to the risk management process.
  • Stakeholder Engagement Frequent engagement with the business stakeholders from Operations, Engineering, Capital Delivery and Health Safety and Wellbeing functions to ensure the needs are understood and against which the work of the team is aligned.
  • Capital Delivery Programmes: Ensure a timely input and liaison support to high voltage or complex low voltage asset upgrade schemes. Accountability for the delivery of directly managed capital programmes by the team.
  • Investigation of faults: Provide leadership in ensuring that serious electrical system failures or unsafe event investigations are carried out and reports are produced.
  • Governance of records Lead in the management of maintenance reports, asset registers, manuals and other technical information. Asset surveys and assessments. Carry out planned electrical network site inspections. Lead the team in undertaking asset assessment surveys and produce.

Base Location: Maple Lodge - Rickmansworth - WD3 9SQ

Working Pattern: 36 Hours Monday-Friday.

What you should bring to the role

  • Significant experience in the application of electrical engineering within a large industrial utility or water company
  • Working knowledge of health and safety regulations, and in particular, electrical safety rules and procedures
  • Operational experience as an Authorised Person
  • Engaging with operational management teams, contractors and other third parties.
  • Experience in mentoring and coaching others
  • Oversee the production and management of maintenance and fault-finding activity reports
  • Essential Technical Skills & Qualifications
  • Degree, HNC, in electrical engineering or significant related experience
  • Formal training in The Requirements for Electrical Installations BS7671
  • Appointment as an Authorised Person for high voltage or low voltage systems
  • Proven working experience in industrial electrical power engineering
  • Understanding of the Electricity as Work Regulations and the application to electrical systems in the business
