Heathrow IRC combines Colnbrook and Harmondsworth removals centres under one management structure making it the largest immigration removal centre in Europe, with a capacity of 965 residents.

Care & Custody are responsible for delivering the end-to-end management of all residents needs until the outcome of their case is decided by the Home Office - removal or temporary admission into the UK. This is balanced against the competing pressures of safety, security, welfare needs and regime.

Job objectives and responsibilities

· To operate as part of the centres management team delivering a safe, secure and decent environment which is provided in line with contractual, company and Home Office standards.

· Provide advice, coaching and support to staff in order to maximise the efficient and effective running of the Centre.

· Over see the management of the gyms on both sites ensuring best practices are met in line with contract complinaces

Main duties and accountabilities

· Manage the provision of a safe, secure, clean and decent environment in which detainees feel protected and receive their rights in line with contractual obligations and company policies and procedures.

· Manage the implementation of all routines and systems within the gym areas, including documentation, and monitoring these to ensure the effective running each area.

· Deploy staff effectively and appropriately to ensure the cost effective smooth running of the operation.

· Ensure all operational and emergency procedures are adhered to in line with company policy.

· Coach and support staff development to maximise staff performance, motivation and contribution.

· Manage and monitor staff to ensure contractual obligations and company standards are met at all times.

· Organise and manage the provision of timely accurate data for management recording and decision making.

· Manage the operation of the detainee complaints procedure to ensuring compliance with company standards and procedures.

· Manage resources effectively and efficiently to ensure quality of service and best value for money.

· Undertake other managerial duties as required to ensure the smooth and effective running of the Centre including ACDT reviews, training, invsetigations and complaints.

· Create and monitor suitable training programes for detainees to build on current courses and external accrediations available

· Promote attendance and wellbeing of residents and staff within the centre.

· Collect and analsye attendance data in order to create effective action plans.

· Link with key external key stakeholders and community groups to provide a varity of suitable activites and events.

· Monitor and maintain all equipment effectively working closely with the security department.

· Design and implement staff team building events.

· Manage staff effectively to ensure high standards are met and work closely with other managers within the department.

Person Specification

· Management or supervisory experience within a custodial environment is an advantage.

· You must be gym qualified with a minumun of a level 2 NVQ completed.
