Bristol City Council’s Housing Options Service has three permanent vacancies for Housing Advisors to work within the Homelessness Prevention Team. This is a specialist team working with families and single people who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness; to ensure early intervention, prevention, and to assist households in finding solutions to their housing problems.

The role of a Housing Advisor is an exciting and challenging role which involves working with both families and single people, to ensure early intervention and prevention and assisting households finding solutions to their housing problems. It is also interesting and demanding, working face to face with Citizens to identify issues and steps that can be taken, to prevent homelessness.
These specific roles will primarily be responsible for community outreach and will involve visiting households in their own homes to resolve their housing issues and providing drop-in sessions at community based locations.
You will promote and provide authoritative advice and assistance to prevent homelessness with a range of housing solutions, and will advise landlords and tenants regarding their statutory rights.
You must have excellent negotiation, problem-solving, and communication skills (particularly written) and the ability to present information in a legible and logical manner. You will also require excellent conciliation and mediation skills, to achieve effective understanding between groups with potentially conflicting objectives.
