The Team Leader role sits within the Business Operations Department which primarily supports Course Administration to all Colleges and Divisions at the Defence Academy, and PA Services to the Senior Leadership Team. The department is continually making improvements, reviewing processes and standardising services to enable us to continually provide service excellence. The Pandemic has seen us adopt new processes to help the Defence Academy move forward with online and blended learning. As a Team Leader your duties will be the Line Management responsibility for 15-20 staff members of differing levels of expertise and in different customer facing roles. The successful candidate will actively participate in the recruitment of staff, allocate work to staff, monitor and manage absences, performance, well-being and learning and development requirements as well as conduction annual Performance Reviews. The post holder will also be responsible for the coaching and mentoring of colleagues working in the area. Secondary Duty managing specific admin functions directly relating to the Customer's deliverables will also be included in this role. There will be a requirement to take responsibility for project work as directed by and on behalf of the Head of Business Operations. There may be a requirement to deputise for the other Team Leaders during periods of absence. The post holder needs to be extremely proactive in anticipating the needs of the customer, co-ordination, control and delegation of incoming work out to the team and monitoring the progress, planning for future developments and problem solving. Serco Restricted and Sensitive Acting as the initial point of contact for the area of responsibility regarding administrative support issues. Taking a pro-active role within the Department; liaising with the customer and generally being fully conversant with the departmental aims and objectives. Department Health, Safety and Environmental responsibilities including risk assessments, planned general inspections, display screen assessments, near miss reporting and reviews. Adhere to the Health and Safety Act (1974).

Serco has been involved with the provision of services at the Defence Academy, Shrivenham site since 2000 in the role of main provider of both Hard and Soft Facilities Management. As well as this role, the operation includes the provision of academic learning each year via the Joint Services Command and Staff College. The Academy annually carries out pre- and post-graduate education and training (for some 100,000 visitors annually) covering leadership, strategy, science and technology and business skills. The core services we provide include maintenance of the buildings, supporting the training courses, ICT services and much more.
