We are looking for a talented communication professional to join Defra Communications group's Digital Engagement and Creative Content team to optimise our creative content and maximise our engagement on social media - ensuring that digital is at the heart of our communications. The Social Media Manager is responsible for planning and producing powerful and compelling digital content that supports our campaigns across a range of platforms. This hands-on role will be responsible for planning, creating and managing the digital creative content on a wide range of departmental announcements and campaigns, telling our story to online audiences. This role will have a particular focus on nature and climate change issues. This is a truly exciting time to be joining the team, and you'll need to hit the ground running as we prepare for environmental announcements in the leadup to COP26. As a Social Media Manager, your main responsibilities would be: + Manage Defra group's presence on social media platforms, embedding best-practice and supporting announcements and departmental campaigns on areas such as: climate change, tackling single-use plastics, helping to deliver COP26, delivering digital communications that support our landmark Environment Bill and our 25 Year Environment Plan + Build creative and engaging social content for Defra, Natural England and Environment Agency channels (e.g. basic videos, Instagram stories and quizzes) + Work with press and strategic communications colleagues to produce digital plans that communicate our policies through compelling stories and engaging creative content + Champion best-practice skills and techniques for publishing on social media platforms and lead continuous improvement across the Defra group communications + Identify opportunities to co-create and collaborate on content and campaigns with environmental influencers and stakeholders + Manage relationships with agencies, other government departments and stakeholders to deliver campaign and other digital content as needed + Use social media insight tools to compile reports and recommendations + Monitor and track the success of our social channels and off-platform content seeking to optimise and improve performance + Provide expert digital content advice and training to wider teams Take part in an incident rota as required, which may on involve working outside office hours and weekends.?
You'll have relevant experience in: + Substantial experience of running social media channels like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn and have an up-to-date understanding of best practice for each channel + Experience in devising and delivering comprehensive digital communications plans + Experience in creating engaging digital content using a range of digital tools + Excellent time-management skills and proven ability to prioritise and deliver high-quality products quickly + Experience of applying digital storytelling techniques to engage and inspire audiences + Experience of social media monitoring tools, digital evaluation and analysis + Good understanding of the latest social media trends and digital media landscape + Willingness to help others develop their digital skills You'll have the following personal qualities: + You work well as part of a team and strive to ensure the team pulls together and is effective. + You look for better ways of doing things and enjoy coming up with new and original ideas. + You make plans and are well prepared.
