Job Description

  • We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to have a key role for the end-to-end delivery of the data strategy at Royal Mail, working along with our Data Science team to ensure that engineering practices and product delivery have the best engineering practices and standards.

  • This is a crucial role for Royal Mail as a tech company. In order to implement innovative data use cases to put ourselves technologically ahead of our competitors, you should expect to have a high impact and visibility from the business.

  • We are looking for an experienced Engineer with a wealth of Data experience, but who also has recent experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployments to the Cloud.

    In this role you will:

  • As a Senior Data Engineer at the Data & Engineering department, you will be driving a large batch, streaming and machine learning applications from the design to production in the Cloud.

  • Drive and mentor data engineering teams to ensure strategic data product outcomes that incrementally reduce our data estate technical debt

  • You will have an important role solving problems like routes optimisation, estimation of parcel delivery time windows, failures prediction in machines and vehicles.

  • Line manage, continuously improve, certify and mentor Data engineers

Candidate Description

  • You will have a deep technical understanding of: + Key data structures, algorithms and software design patterns. + Extensive Python experience + Experience with JVM Languages (Java and/or Scala) + Big Data technologies (Hadoop, Spark or Hive). + Experience with distributed applications in public cloud environments (ideally GCP). + Automated testing + Build and continuous integration tools, CI/CD pipelines + Containerisation technologies (Docker and/or Kubernetes). + SQL
