As a Care & Custody Senior Custody Detention Officer, you will line manage a team of Custody Detention officers, and at times, have operational responsibility for all Detention Officer staff within Leicestershire and Northamptonshire Police areas. Maintaining the safety of detained persons, staff and visitors to Police Custody, as well as ensuring compliance with the 'Authorised Professional Practice' (APP - Police Custody), relevant legislation including the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE) and associated Codes of Practice Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for the day to day resourcing of custody sites across the force area, ensuring resources meet the required operating levels agreed by Commissioners. Resolve or escalate identified issues affecting service delivery, ensuring service is delivered efficiently and effectively. Making sure Commissioners are updated regarding issues impacting significantly on service delivery.
Responsible for ensuring daily, and weekly health and safety checks are completed within all operational custody sites.
Line management and mentoring of a team of CDO's, ensuring welfare, operational and sickness needs of the individual and organisation are met.
Effectively manage staff sickness and attendance in line with company policy and manage the performance of your team and any required disciplinary action.
To maintain the safe reception, treatment and well-being of detained persons in police custody.
Ensure compliance of legislation including the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE) and Authorised Professional Practice (APP).
Maintaining the security and safety of all staff and visitors.
Complete mid-term and end of year MiReviews for all aligned staff.
Providing on-call out of hours support to staff and Commissioners across custody sites within Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.
Accountable personal and team performance and ensure contractual Key Performance Indicators are met and take effective remedial action to address under-performance.
By utilising good interpersonal skills and welfare standards, engender a spirit of high morale and co-operation between and amongst prisoners.
Treat all prisoners, visitors, and officials with respect, courtesy and consideration.
Assist in the assessment of prisoner's conduct, health and wellbeing.
Render first aid to either detainee or member of staff.
Maintain a high level of personal appearance as per Mitie Code of Conduct.
Positively engages with the customer, colleagues, visitors and partner agencies at all levels; ensuring that communication is timely, accurate and is fit for purpose.
Proven organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure.
Good computer/IT skills
Interpersonal and face to face communication skills based in a customer facing environment.
The ability to work independently and part of team, within a fast-paced environment.
Must be flexible and demonstrate a willingness to cover any custody facility as directed, at short notice if required to cover abstractions and emergencies
