Mitie has a great opportunity for a Security Officer to join the Total Security Management Team in the Crumlin area of Co Antrim. You are guaranteed a minimum of 42 hours per week covering a rotation of day shifts and nights shifts on a rotational basis and further shifts will be available to cover holidays and uplifts in work as well as short notice sickness/absence cover. The pay rate for this position is £9 per hour after training

Reporting to the Operations Manager the Security Officer will be responsible for (but not limited to) creating a safe, secure and trusted visual security deterrent for all colleagues, clients and customers. Internal and external premises patrolling, personnel hands off bag / vehicle searches and any other security support required to meet the needs of the business

The successful candidate must be confident when dealing with members of the public and able to react to any situation that may arise.

Job Objectives & Responsibilities

  • To protect our customer’s property, people and/or assets by providing security services in direct accordance with the sites published Assignment Instructions (AI’s) and any subsequent changes.

  • Delivering results that meet and / or exceed the Key performance indicators / Service Level Agreement for the customer through full responsibility and accountability, providing a service that aids in the retention of the contract.

  • To undertake additional training to ensure continuous self-development.

Main Duties

  • The Security Officer will remain vigilant and present a welcoming atmosphere to staff and visitors entering site (Meet and greet role)

  • Is to have a comprehensive working knowledge of Assignment Instructions complete with all current amendments and temporary additions, writing of incident reports and written recording of information.

  • The Security Officer is to be thoroughly conversant with telephone, alarm, IT systems and any other systems or equipment used in the course of their duties.

  • The Security Officer will ensure that proper clear written entry is made in the DOB when he/she is going on break and back from break.

  • Is to detect and prevent any occurrences that may lead to loss by fire, flood, plant failure, theft, vandalism or any other form of crime.

  • The reporting line of the Security Officer is direct to the Operations Support Team and Operations Manager

  • The Security Officer is to assist the on-site client during emergency at which time; their role will be as directed by the on-site client

  • Is to detect and prevent situations that may lead to accident or personal injury and to ensure that any such situation is promptly reported.

  • Respond to requests for assistance.

  • Keeping records of site activity through the Daily Occurrence Book

  • Any other requests as communicated by MITIE and as agreed with client personnel.


  • Fully and satisfactorily complete all required competency based training.

  • To undertake additional training to ensure continuous self-development as directed by the Security Operations Manager.

  • Use technology to achieve key work objectives and develop job knowledge and expertise through continual professional development.

  • You are required to ensure you renew your SIA licence 16 weeks before expiry.

Security and Health & Safety

  • Look out for, and to immediately report, any Health & Safety hazards, or potential hazards, on site.

  • Stay alert to any threats or changes within the work environment in order to take the appropriate action to reduce the chance of disruption, loss or damage.

  • Use common sense and initiative by immediately involving others if a situation appears to become threatening.

  • To maintain professional conduct in the face of difficult situations and challenging customers

  • Complete an accurate, detailed notebook entry as soon as possible after any incident, which can then be used as part of the Incident Report process.

  • Keep to schedules and demonstrate commitment to Mitie and the Client.

  • To ensure check calls are being carried out at the allocated time slot as stipulated in the Assignment Instructions (AI’s).To call emergency services and Communication Centre to report all incidents.
