With an increase in focus on our technology based product and service offerings we are looking to appoint a Reporting Analyst to join the Data Insight Team.
Reporting into the Data Insight Practice Lead, the purpose of the role is to deliver clear and concise reports that enable our customers and clients to understand the performance of their area. This may include the use of client, supply chain, open source or existing productivity data as well as other external sources to aid data-driven decision making.
The primary function of this role is to develop and support our clients, and Contract leaders with productivity and performance reporting. Providing collection and collation of data, ensuring the data quality, before using the data for business defined analysis and ensuring confidence in the reporting provided.
The main focus of this Reporting Analyst role is to design and develop metrics, reports and analyses to drive key business decisions using Microsoft PowerBI.
The core responsibility is transforming raw enterprise data into performance and information reporting. You will receive requests from all levels and sectors of Costain so must have strong task prioritisation skills in addition to good statistical and critical thinking skills. You will work alongside data analysts and data scientists within the team which presents areas for growth and development.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Handle small projects, present results and meet deadlines by collaborating on multiple projects.
Document business requirements to map user needs with complimentary technical requirements.
Process information confidentially
Develop cross group and cross functional reports covering client needs.
Decompose high level business needs into functional needs by understanding problem and determining data needs.
Extract, filter and aggregate data through logical queries and basic programming.
Develop and create data layout like tables, charts, graphs, heat maps and process flow diagrams.
Ensure that the reporting outcome meets the agreed individual business requirements and expectations and is delivered in a timely manner with measurable outputs.
Utilise and optimise industry-standard business processes, to foster standardisation and efficiency in our projects and corporate functions.
Candidate Description
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems or a related study (or equivalent project-related experience). However, candidates with a different background and significant relevant experience will also be considered. The emphasis for this role is a history of providing and maintaining corporate and client reports using Microsoft PowerBI.
Preferred knowledge and skills
Logical and concise approach to work
Ability to pay close attention to small details that could impact results
A comprehensive understanding of basic data concepts such as relational databases, pipelines, ETL, basis statistics, visualisation methods
Excellent written skills including detailed documentation of requirements and actions arising from client interactions
Strong Microsoft Excel and PowerBI skills, demonstrable by real-world examples
SQL or other query language knowledge and experience preferred but not needed
Ability to assess rapidly changing technologies and apply them to business needs.
Candidates should have:
Previous relevant experience in an IT or BI role involving regular use of Microsoft enterprise technologies such as PowerBI, Azure and Office365.
In-depth experience of designing, implementing and supporting information and data solutions.
Hands-on experience with Office 365 products, especially Excel and PowerBI, is required.
