Job Description

The Shield program is designed to leverage the data centre expertise of the GWS Data Centre Solutions business and provide a framework for operational excellence in data centre accounts managed by CBRE elsewhere in the GWS business. This position will be accountable for the implementation of Shield in all accounts which operate a data centre facility and lead a small team of experts responsible for providing coaching and guidance to those teams implementing Shield thereby helping ensure successful implementation with the benefits of the approach being realized in each and every account. As such this role carries high global visibility across the GWS business and requires leadership that is able to own global program governance, develop risk mitigation strategies, and continuously improve the Shield offering to ensure it remains fit for purpose and valuable to all CBRE managed data centre accounts. . This will include providing frequent Sr Leadership briefings on the status of compliance with program objectives, recommended risk mitigation strategies and developing business cases for enhancements of changes to the scope of the Shield Program. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to thrive in a global role where success depends on the ability to influence and coach others across differing geographies and cultures as well as providing line management of the central Shield team. The role is accountable for the overall effectiveness of Shield as a method of managing operational risk in CBRE managed data centres, specifically:

  • Maintenance and continuous improvement of the Shield program collateral

  • Delivery of training, coaching and mentoring in respect of Shield processes and procedures

  • Monitoring and reporting on Shield compliance across the GWS business

  • Developing metrics, maintaining and reporting on the effectiveness of Shield in accounts where it is deployed and across the GWS business in general In order to success in this role, it is likely that a candidate will demonstrate (with evidence) the following experience:

  • Management of data centre operations, ideally in a multi-site environment

  • Working across international boundaries and differing cultures; awareness of the different approaches likely to be most successful in effectively influencing outcomes across the globe

  • Implementing and governing risk management practices with an emphasis on operational, contractual, and financial risk

  • Development and implementation of standards and/or procedure coupled with

  • Influencing geographically dispersed peers and colleagues to deliver exceptional outcomes

  • Developing and operating program level governance along with associated reporting and feedback loops to ensure continuous service improvement Providing thought leadership across an organization and effectively managing organizational change with an emphasis on building a culture or service excellence and reliability Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be a self-starter, well-versed in data center best practices and able to communicate effectively on the topic from technician to executive leadership Education & Experience Preferred: Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from a four year college or university Expected: Demonstrable track record of leading data centre operations (facilities and, ideally, IT services) at scale and in depth understanding of operational risk management. Certifications and/or Licenses Professional designation such as CDCMP, CPM or CRL Communication Skills Ability to comprehend, analyze and interpret the most complex business documents and respond effectively to the most sensitive issues. Ability write reports, create relevant charts and graphs, interpret contract language. Ability to effectively and persuasively make presentations on complex topics in such a way that actions are clearly understood. Effective written and oral communication with a bias toward explaining technical concepts and imperatives in a manner directly relatable to business outcomes with, where appropriate, nuances appropriate to different cultures. The successful candidate will be able to clearly articulate the benefit so the Shield program to staff at all levels in the organization and have the verbal, written and influencing skills to ensure that staff across GWS understand and support the intent of the program and are clear on the value it brings to their roles and contract engagements. English language is the current default for all communication but as the program evolves we anticipate fuller support of other languages so any other spoken and/or written language abilities will be a benefit.
