The role

Pricing and Underwriting is a huge part of the DLG business and consists of nearly 200 individuals with varying specialisms -from the type of products they work on, to their technical skills, we have a real diverse team, and we’re proud of it! We recognise the value that each of our employees bring. Their diversity and their different approaches to problem solving is key to our success.


DLG has an agile operating model which means that if you join us you aren’t locked into a specific product or feature forever, there is no such thing as a “Motor Retail Pricing Analyst” for example. Instead, you join a cohort of Pricing and Underwriting Specialists and can flex, move, and follow your own development journey across our products – so if you’ve wanted to try new things for a while, apply today and see how we can bring out the best in you (while teaching you lots about our products and brands!)


What we are looking for

We’re keen to meet curious Pricing or Underwriting Analysts/Managers/Specialists across broad specialisms, whether that’s Motor Retail, Renewals, Home, Pet, Property, Actuarial. Or even if you're very specialist like Geospatial, Governance and Control, or individuals keen to focus on Data Science, coding in R and using Emblem.


What you'll be doing

We work in teams of multi-disciplinary people, and you may end up spending the day with Engineers, Marketing and Customer specialists working together to improve either part of a customer journey, a pricing model, an underwriting principle, or perhaps join other P&U specialists on a project like FCA Pricing Practices.


What’s always in focus regardless of the mission you are set, is improvement and looking for innovative solutions. We want you to utilise your technical specialism to help us reach the best outcomes and think tactically, strategically as well as creatively!


Here are some examples of activity you can get involved in:

  • Growing and evolving our start-up InsureTech business Darwin, disrupting the industry through machine learning and innovative use of data

  • Working on Direct Line, our most famous brand, working to keep us in the post of “best at direct”

  • Working with Green Flag, our rescue product on literally rescuing people in need, as well as using data and algorithms to predict and prevent incidents happening in the first place

  • Joining our Pricing and Underwriting Centre of Expertise (CoE) team to drive policy and thought leadership across the chapter

  • Becoming a Chapter Lead (people leader) and dedicating part of your time to coaching and developing others to become even better P&U specialists

  • Doing all the usual things you’d expect like pricing modelling, PCW optimisation, policy review, underwriting checks and control review, problem solving and adopting to changing market influences etc.


Who you'll be working with

We work cross functionally within a team or “squad” as we call them with lots of different people with different specialist skills. One of these individuals will be assigned the role of product owner and will ensure that as a team you are prioritising and delivering on time. You’ll have a chapter lead (people manager) whom you build a relationship with and who supports your personal development. You’ll also meet within P&U, with town halls of all 200 of you or in smaller focus groups where you'll be sharing knowledge and ideas, thoughts, and ways of working.
