Job Description

The Clinical Pathology Specimen reception department at Nottingham University Hospitals provides a pre-analytical service, receiving and handling biological samples for patients across Nottingham. Specimen reception is the first point of contact for sample arriving within Clinical pathology, The section is looking to recruit medical laboratory assistants to support this service. Applications from hardworking, enthusiastic individuals with a keen eye for detail are welcomed.

The main duties of the role are to perform pre-analytical reception and processing duties including the receipt, barcode labelling and preparation of blood samples for analysis. Accurate entry of patient demographics into the laboratory software. Loading of samples on to laboratory equipment and Centrifuges. Perform general housekeeping duties including maintaining stock levels, general cleaning and waste disposal.

Specimen reception is the first point of contact for samples arriving into the clinical pathology laboratory. It is the key to getting accurate results out in a timely manner to service users within the hospital and across Nottingham.
