Job Description

Serco is contracted to provide Total Facilities Management to the Defence Academy of the UK (DA). This prestigious establishment is responsible for post-graduate education and the majority of the command, staff, leadership, Defence management, acquisition and technology training for members of the UK Armed Forces and MOD Civil Servants. Serco supports the DA as the MOD's primary link with UK universities and international military educational institutions.

Candidate Description

The Head of Operations (Estates) shall lead the estates works function, and oversee all aspects of operational delivery, leading by example and holding full line management responsibility for the team, offering relevant support and mentoring, whilst promoting the theme of continuous improvement in the workplace. Acting as a subject matter expert you'll provide advice, guidance, and reports to internal and external senior management stakeholders. Interpretation and delivery of the defined Contract requirements/outputs will be key to this post, so a detailed knowledge of commercial contracts will be essential to the role., If you have experience in a similar in lead role from a large estates or facilities managements environment then we want to hear from you! Other requirements:

  • Line management experience with a high level of motivation, energy, drive, and enthusiasm;

  • Chartered status (or working towards) with a Degree, or equivalent, in a facilities management discipline.

  • Demonstrable senior managerial experience in a relevant FM operational environment with management experience of maintenance, landscapes, asset management, budget control, facilities management, resource management, project management, contract management and churn.

  • Experience in a relevant technical field with a broad, in depth, practical and managerial experience of maintenance management, construction techniques, mechanical and electrical engineering aspects and grounds maintenance management.

  • Experience of all aspects of change management techniques and comfortable with the uncertainty that change engenders.

  • A strong understanding of operations management for buildings under PFI/PPP contracts, including both hard and soft FM.

  • Excellent knowledge of H&S and Environmental management issues and processes, including CDM Regulations.

  • Ability to manage multiple complex tasks and projects to tight deadlines and cost.,
