The Research Manager will work closely with the Risk Management team and use their in depth understanding to help formulate a view on the direction of the energy market which will aide recommendations in line with customer’s strategies.

As part of this role you will gain a deep understanding of the energy markets, price dynamics and how this will affect clients and the wider business. The position will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to develop their market research, economic analysis, commercial knowledge and report writing and editing skills.

Main duties

  • Responsible for the creation and distribution of Mitie Energy’s market intelligence reports and analysis.

  • Generating market research used to construct a continually evolving market view, covering UK and European energy prices, as well as coal and oil, and broader macroeconomic developments.

  • Providing customers with timely analysis and insight into the effect of market moving events.

  • Running workshops and training sessions for customers on energy related topics.

  • Keeping track of policy and regulation developments affecting wholesale markets and non-energy charges, and updating customers on significant policy changes.

  • Speaking at conferences and to the press about market and policy development.

  • Keeping other business units abreast of industry changes that could affect their operations.

  • Assisting the risk management desk to provide expert advice and recommendations on the energy markets and to help carry out trades on the wholesale market.

  • Managing hedges for electricity and gas portfolios for a number of businesses with flexible supply agreements

  • Advising clients on gas and power purchases in line with each client’s risk management policy and executing trades
