Job Description

You will be the subject matter expert and provide specialist advice and delivery of all aspects of Employee Relations and HR policies. You will support DVSA's strategic and business objectives. You will assist the Head of Employee Relations & Reward to deliver the ER&R Strategy and helping Corporate Senior Leaders with ER and policy, enabling them to keep people safe on Britain's roads. As an Employee Relations and Policy Specialist your main responsibilities would be: + Being the main point of contact for DVSA with the Trade Union Side (TUS) and individual unions, for the purpose of sharing information, conducting consultations, and investigating issues raised by the TUS. + Maintaining positive TUS engagement and interaction while helping the business deliver a significant change agenda, including transformation of service delivery and efficiency savings. + Organising (and chairing where appropriate) meetings between DVSA and the TUS, facilitating good discussion and promoting resolution of issues through compromise and creative thinking. + Managing Facility Time allocations, reporting and policies. This includes dealing directly with TU representatives and line managers, designing training requirements and resolving concerns diplomatically and efficiently. + Working to improve the accessibility and presentation of ER/HR information to staff, helping them to find the right advice quickly, and in a clear, concise format. + To provide comprehensive and authoritative advice, to draw conclusions and explain and defend the position in a convincing way. Breadth of knowledge and understanding of the issues is important in enabling the influencing of colleagues, senior leaders and external 3rd party providers. + Maintain a 'custodian' position of the Staff Handbook, ensuring it is kept up to date with current legislation and DVSA/DfT policy. Liaise with subject matter experts across the People Directorate to manage contributory work and to regularly review existing policies and guidance + To represent the team by contributing to Cross Government Working Groups including attendance at meetings and forums + Execute management responsibilities effectively and in line with DVSA policies and processes; working with, leading and acting as a role model for team members and colleagues in line with Civil Service values.
