Candidate Description

ITC training course commences: 18th October 2021 (8 weeks face to face training). Training is paid, and classed as your first day of employment (subject to vetting clearance)

We are looking for motivated & caring people with great interpersonal skills to join our teams as Detainee Custody Officers, whose dedicated role during their shift will be to care for detainees during their temporary stay in an immigration holding room at a fixed base location in Lincolnshire.

To become a Care + Custody DCO you will have excellent communication and people skills. Your ability to work well in a team, with a non-judgmental approach will help you to deliver this challenging but rewarding role with empathy, dignity and professionalism.

You will be able to successfully de-escalate challenging situations and enjoy being mobile during your working day, spending time with people from different backgrounds and cultures.

Ideal candidates for the role will be quietly confident with the ability to respond calmly under pressure.

Your role as a 'DCO' will require you to maintain high standards of security and safety whilst promoting the welfare and decency of detainees in your care

Working a rolling shift pattern that covers 24 hours, 365 days per year, you will be contracted to work day and night shifts, long days and short days with a variety of start and finish times, early, midday and late starts and with possible overtime opportunities. Shifts will also include weekend and bank holidays.

Being a Detainee Custody Officer demands the people's skills, patience, resilience and professionalism to handle an ever-changing day. Our people come from a variety of backgrounds, you will have the communication and interpersonal skills to support colleagues, work together in teams and deliver an exceptional service to our detainees. Previous experience of dealing with sensitively in a wide variety of people who have been agitated, confused or angry would be an advantage., Once you have passed our selection and vetting process, you'll begin your Care & Custody career completing a 7-week initial training course (ITC), continuing your development over the next 12 months with on the job mentoring and assessments to gain our accredited Level 3 apprenticeship in Detention and Custody., Full Counter Terrorism Clearance (CTC) and Enhanced DBS is required for this role, along with a valid UK manual driving licence with no driving ban and less than 6 points on your licence.
