Community Payback (CP) is a sentence issued by the Court where individuals on probation carry out unpaid work on worthwhile, community-focused projects. Both a punishment and reparation, those on CP learn new skills, achieve visible results and where possible gain qualifications and employment.


We care about rehabilitation, supporting vulnerable people through the criminal justice system and giving them the tools they need to transform their lives. In the last five years, we’ve made significant progress in reducing re-offending rates and protecting the public across London. Following our most recent inspection in April 2019, we were the only CRC in the country to score ‘Good’ or ‘Requires Improvement’ in each domain.

As Deputy Head of Community Payback Operations, you’ll be supporting the Head of Operations to deliver Community Payback for the next 12 months, working across a fast paced and demanding environment. 




Key responsibilities of the role


In this role you will be responsible for supporting the Head of Operations to deliver Community Payback (Unpaid Work) across London, deputising as necessary.
Provides leadership and strategic direction to Community Payback (CP) employees.
Specific focus on leading the transition towards a new operating model and liaison with the CRC Communities Directorate and National Probation Service to enable Service Users to complete their unpaid work requirements in 12 months.
Ensures that our service users and communities are at the heart of everything we do.
Makes recommendations to the Head of Operations as to ways in which the quality of the CP service can be continuously improved.
Promotes a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring best practice in the quality of solutions across CP.
Promotes an open and supportive culture which fosters inclusiveness, innovation and high performance.
At all times act appropriately as a role model in accordance with the London CRC values and management systems.
Responsible for delivering a responsive and quality service in a fast paced and highly demanding environment.
Line manages allocated Delivery Lead Managers and other CP employs as required.
Develops and sustains effective working relationships with key stakeholders, multi-agency partners, voluntary organisations and external agencies, both in respect of CP delivery and in promoting the wider organisation.
Ensures London CRC delivers effective joint working with partners and stakeholders to improve outcomes at a local level and improve the range of services within the community.


Person specification:


Experience of successfully developing, implementing and managing strategy, including engaging stakeholders and partner organisations.
Team player, with experience of successfully improving the demonstrable performance of teams and individuals within highly time pressured organisations.
Experience of bringing about service quality improvements within operations.
Some knowledge and understanding of health & safety legislation.
Ability to make sound decisions in challenging and complex situations.
Able to manage budgets and ensure the cost effectiveness of staff rosters.
Ability to influence internal and external stakeholders and adapt complex messages to diverse audiences.
Ability to manage projects and conduct audits and inspections.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Excellent recording and IT skills.


Other Duties

 Must be willing to travel throughout the London Area, and, occasionally, beyond.
Must be willing to work flexibly, including at weekends as necessary.
Undertakes any other duties that are commensurate with the grade and nature of the role.
