Here at Serco, we are recruiting for a Support Services Manager to join Barts Health NHS Trust at Mile End Hospital. You will ensure the delivery of a high quality catering service, managing the whole catering area and the staff associated with it ensuring the department is supported in supervision of the food production area.
You will hold overall responsibility for the Patient Catering Services operations, to ensure contract service compliance in accordance with efficient and effective service delivery and national guidelines. Reporting into the General Manager you will be expected to exercise a high degree of autonomy making strategic decisions in line with service requirements.
A varied role incorporating managing menu requirements across the trust including building menus within our catering software with the involvement of the contract dietician. It is imperative that you have extensive quality driven line management experience - you will be expected to hit the ground running with managing your team effectively through coaching, professional development and managerial support dealing with all HR management issues.
This pressurised, customer focused operational role is physically demanding and you may come across distressing circumstances, so passion and drive are required to ensure you can deliver on accountabilities including:
Manage all aspects of the interface between service users and the service delivery teams for Catering Support Services
Supporting the General Manager in setting the annual budget requirements, overall expenditure and the drawing up of contingency plans to deal with projected overspends
Liaising with customers and senior managers of the Board and external parties to ensure the agreed level of service is being delivered to the standards required
Investigating client complaints, implementing action plans and monitoring improvements.
Providing comprehensive written reports to the Contract Director and the client
Responsible for policy development and implementation and service development within their area.
Authorising the purchase and procurement of materials and supplies and ensuring that the cost, quality and wastage of products and materials are monitored on a regular basis. Accountable for the income and expenditure levels of the department
Reviewing and amending annual service and personal objectives
Analyse data on service delivery and performance providing reports for the Contract Board as appropriate.
Establish and review working procedures within each area to ensure the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1974 are adhered to

First and foremost, you must have relevant experience within the Health industry so that natural flair to care, will drive you making the difference.
You'll be well versed in financial and commercial acumen to confidently interrogate and analyse information and to draw conclusions.
Experience managing budgets as well as attending and contributing to financial meetings and business planning.
As a minimum you will hold qualifications including Level 4 Food Safety, Advanced Food Hygiene, HND or City and Guilds 706/1,2,3. (HND equivalent).
