Business Development Manager - Defence
We're looking for a Defence specialist to join our business development team in order to support growth within our Defence Services portfolio at Amey
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Business Development Manager to support the growth of our Defence business at Amey, driving our front-end capture process for new opportunities. You will work closely with our specialist FMDJ bid and strategy teams, ensuring a collaborative approach to future works. Alongside nurturing and developing key client relationships, the Business Development Manager will be responsible for identifying and developing teaming requirements, driving and implementing best practice business development, and encouraging a knowledge sharing culture.
Opportunities may cover a range of FMDJ capabilities including: infrastructure and asset management, facilities management, complex support services, across the public sector, but predominantly within the Defence market. Opportunities may be standalone Amey opportunities or working with strategic partners delivered as a joint venture or consortium. Opportunities will vary in duration, size and complexity: from a few weeks for a Framework Bid, through to multi-stage 18 month long Negotiated processes, with contract values anything from £5mpa through to £150mpa.
Supports the Business Development Director, Sales Team and wider operational business in developing business unit strategy and annual business planning in line with financial targets
Identifies new markets and customers, or offerings, in order to expand and diversify the business
Seeks out and develops new relationships to enhance Amey capabilities
Business Development & Pipeline
Seeks out and develops new strategic business opportunities in line with the business strategy
Representation at industry conferences to develop market insight & business relationships
Pipeline and order book analysis
Pipeline management (using Microsoft Dynamics CRM); ensuring the business pipeline remains accurate and up-to-date
Works with the business unit to identify and pursue growth opportunities
Customer / Market
Develop and manage key client relationships, acting as the face of Amey
Attend and provide updates to meetings to share information and knowledge on market sectors
Understands and analyses competitor information
Support, develop and drive a culture of customer centricity
Identifies need for capability enhancement and teaming, and develops/implements plan to position Amey Builds working and commercial relationships with potential partners Prepares win strategy for individual opportunities, and hands over to bid lead at the appropriate stage
What are we looking for?
The successful candidate will have an established background in successfully securing new business opportunities for a main contractor in the Defence business sector. A background in Defence, including operations could be highly beneficial. You will have a proactive attitude to business development, with a portfolio of relevant defence industry contacts to support your work. This role would suit a people person, with a sense of fun who can really make an impact in a room and establish meaningful relationships, twinned with an in-depth knowledge of defence procurement and bid requirements.
