Job Description

You will be playing a pivotal role in ensuring that traffic in Kent keeps moving and lorries carrying our exports are able to successfully cross the border into the EU follow the UK's exit from the European Union. You will be supporting the compliance and enforcement process based at the Government's Inland Border Facility, which is a multi-functional site in the South East of England.

Role duties

  • You will be working as part of a highly disciplined team and will be responsible for contributing to a safe and effective working environment for yourself and your colleagues.

  • You will be talking to hauliers to establish whether they are ready to cross the border, and what services they require when attending the IBF.

  • You will need to be able to understand what it means for a lorry to be border ready, and to identify customs and other documentation when presented by lorry drivers.

  • You will be required to use a tablet to determine if a vehicle is pre-lodged and to enter all haulier details onto the system by following the system process. This will allow you to triage vehicles successful whilst on site to ensure they receive the service requested on site.,

  • Full Personal Protective Equipment will be supplied as full 360 must be worn at all times whist on site.

  • Uniform will be provided

  • Full training will be provided.

  • Be comfortable working both indoors & outdoors, around lorries and large vehicles and in a live environment, taking safety of yourself and those around you seriously

  • Ability to think clearly, communicate effectively and calmly under pressure - maintaining positive relationships, but being assertive when necessary.

  • Being able to deal sensitively with potentially distressed or agitated drivers

  • Be physically fit, as the role will involve standing for extended period.

  • Be comfortable with working with a computer, a tablet device and other technology

  • Ability to speak foreign languages would be an advantage, particularly Polish and Romanian.
