I'm currently recruiting for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer for my public sector client based in Dundee on a 2 year Fixed-term basis with a high probability of extension. They are involved in a number Health Data related projects., Working within the infrastructure team and with the wider team and organisation IT department, you will support the development of the secure cloud and contribute to the smooth running of the rest of the research computing infrastructure maintained by the team which includes on-prem compute spread across 4 data-centres, some cloud-native public cloud infrastructure, a mix of Linux and Windows comprising a permanent estate size of circa 100 servers, with VDI scaling that up to around a maximum of 300 machines. The team also look after circa 1PB of SAN storage.
You will work closely with developers, data engineers, information governance staff and research project team members to provide infrastructure and services that enable their work. This will entail custom project infrastructure configuration/build using a combination of dedicated local hardware and multi-institution distributed private and public cloud.
To meet the higher grade requirements, you will be expected to meet at least one of the following skillsets/experience:
Skilled/experienced in cloud architecture and deployment;
Experience of having a significant role in infrastructure projects including design and implementation;
Experience of research software engineering;
Experience of working with health or research data;
Experience of working within ISO27001 or secure environments with other compliance standards;
Experience in a customer facing role where you had to understand requirements and use initiative to design solutions to meet requirements.,
Scripting languages such as Python, BASH, Perl or PowerShell.
Infrastructure as Code technologies (such as Ansible, Terraform and CloudFormation).
Basic understanding of computing system architecture.
Appreciation of the importance of simplicity and reliability in operational engineering.
