The role of Senior Director - Retail, Planning and Proposition, George and GM will report directly to the SVP of Non Food. You'll be working closely with the Retail Operations, Store Visualisation and Planning Teams across the Non Food business. You'll be responsible for the store proposition and layout for Non Food and ensuring the governance of the leadership team driving a rhythm of leadership team meetings whilst being accountable for the communication and training for Non Food retail colleagues.

What you'll be doing:

  • You'll be joining the George/GM leadership team at an exciting point in their journey;

  • With ambitious plans for growth, you can expect to play a pivotal role driving George's improvement in market share at a time when consumer habits are evolving and new entrants are changing the competitor landscape for clothing and GM categories;

  • Be responsible for driving sales growth of the George brand with particular focus on the performance of the store chain, including Asda Living Stores;

  • This will incl working closely with .com teams to identify and grow the synergistic trading opportunities between our virtual and physical trading spaces;

  • Combine strategic insight, market intelligence and knowledge of wider Asda opportunities (eg AOTM, Property, Partnerships , .com) to identify and recommend instore concepts to create greater "trolley swerve" and customer conversion, working at pace to accelerate successful concepts across the chain cost effectively;

  • Ensure the layout of the non food instore footprint is used to maximum effect working closely with the VPs of George and GM to optimise space allocations and enhance customer proposition;

  • Explore the potential for George to be showcased as a Lifestyle brand across fashion and home, developing and trialling the concept, with consideration towards the .com equivalent;

  • Represent the non food business on the Retail Future Tower, championing the transformation benefits across the George instore business;

  • Co-ordinate on behalf of the SVP Non Food the strategic direction of the non food business across the leadership team - 5 year plans, key building blocks and engage appropriate stakeholders to deliver;

  • Manage the Non Food Governance agenda - ensuring appropriate rhythm of leadership meetings for Non Food and relevant Asda stakeholders, communication cascades, holding owners to account on strategy drivers, and ensuring appropriate objectives are in place.

    How you'll be doing it:

    Leading a team of Managers and Senior Managers to drive performance and deliver business results;

    Includes all elements of People management, including line managing all colleagues within the driving their performance measurement and reward;

    Supporting career development and professional development through training and coaching, as required;

    Appointing People Leads within the Profession, to support on pastoral or support tasks related to people development;

    Allocating (generalist and specialist) resource to Missions as required;

    Defining relevant standards and 'health metrics' that monitor the standard and quality of activity performed in Missions;

    Ensuring that health metrics are achieved across the Missions;

    Providing Profession input and perspectives to the George strategy

Candidate Description

Ability to effectively translate the organisation's strategy into language that colleagues can understand and empathise with;

Technical leadership, demonstrating deep knowledge and experience of the Professional area and technical acumen to execute the craft;

Business acumen and an ability to identify competitive, value-driving opportunities across customer segments, product categories and markets;

People leadership, developing talent across the business through coaching, mentoring, facilitation and teaching;

Critical thinking about the application of your expertise to solve customer problems and to achieve outcomes;

Big-picture thinking, problem solving and decision making;
