The person in this Design Senior Director for George role will report into the VP of George Clothing, sitting at the strategic layer of design and reports into the VP of Clothing. The person sets out to deliver a clear design direction for the Non Food business, setting out the strategy for both George and George Home as well as driving synergies between the design and trend direction for both. This person ensures George is on trend and product design is in line with the market and they also set out a clear vision for the strategic direction of the total George design team, working closely with the buying senior director counterpart.

What you will do:

  • Identify a clear design strategy for both George clothing and George Home, aligning to the overarching strategic vision for the Non Food business, enabling the design function to achieve their objectives, working closely with the Buying and Merchandising counterparts to ensure the buying function is aligned to the vision set out;

  • Accountable for the trend and print direction of the business, ensuring designs are on time and relevant to maximise sales opportunities;

  • Drive innovation within the design teams, providing coaching and expert advice to strengthen the design culture within Non Food;

  • Identify new trends within clothing and spot the opportunities for new areas of growth;

  • Utilising sales and performance information to steer the design team to maximise the opportunities and minimise the risk of poor performing trends;

  • Managing the creation of the season design visions for the Non Food, ensuring that overall product aesthetics are in line with the seasonal design brief;

  • Maintaining an in depth understanding of the market, supplier base, competitors and customers requirements for all products within the business;

  • Providing input into the creation and monitoring of department or product vision and marketing plan in line with the Marketing Senior Director;

  • Ensure the design team apply knowledge of the market, emerging trends and fabric innovations and strategic business direction to deliver commercial ranges.

    How you will do it:

  • Influencing a team of Design Assts and managers driving their performance measurement and reward;

  • Advising (generalist and specialist) resource to Missions as required;

  • Defining relevant standards and 'health metrics' that monitor the standard and quality of activity performed in Missions;

  • Ensuring that health metrics are achieved across the Missions;

  • Providing Profession input and perspectives to the George strategy

Candidate Description

  • Ability to effectively translate the organisation's strategy into language that colleagues can understand and empathise with;

  • Technical leadership, demonstrating deep knowledge and experience of the Professional area and technical acumen to execute the craft;

  • Business acumen and an ability to identify competitive, value-driving opportunities across customer segments, product categories and markets;
