The role of Buying Senior Director George/ will report directly in the VP of George Clothing. Working closely with the Merchandising and Buying teams across George Clothing. Responsible for leading the strategic development and delivery of the product strategy for clothing within the Non Food Business. Creating a product proposition that aligns to the brand values to enable the buying profession to achieve the objectives and health metrics set out in the long term strategic vision by yourself and the senior leadership team.

What you'll do

  • Provide an end-to-end optimisation of the business, in collaboration with the Senior Directors within George Clothing;

  • You'll identify the specific skills and capabilities (craft expertise) required to deliver our outcomes and objectives;

  • Act as the senior technical representative for this set of skills and capabilities in leadership and planning meetings;

  • Participate in the quarterly Portfolio and Operating Groups meetings;

  • Defining relevant standards and 'health metrics' that monitor the standard and quality of activity performed in Missions and ensuring that health metrics are achieved across the Missions, Leading a team of Senior Managers including all elements of People management, including:

  • Line managing all colleagues within the driving their performance measurement and reward;

  • Supporting career development and professional development through training and coaching, as required;

  • Appointing People Leads within the Profession, to support on pastoral or support tasks related to people development;

  • Allocating (generalist and specialist) resource to Missions as required;

  • Defining relevant standards and 'health metrics' that monitor the standard and quality of activity performed in Missions;

  • Ensuring that health metrics are achieved across the Missions;

  • Providing Profession input and perspectives to the George strategy.

Candidate Description

  • Future thinking with the ability to interpret trends both inspirationally & commercially;

  • Have an in depth market, competitor & customer knowledge and understanding with the ability to translate data into meaningful actions;

  • Possess a passion for product with a deep understanding of product development, costing, pricing, negotiation & margin management, setting out the specific health metrics for the Buying Profession to adhere to;

  • Must be able to develop & deliver category strategy & plan maintaining brand integrity & ensuring quality, style & value is delivered to the customer, working alongside your Design counterpart;

  • Have a strong commercial awareness driving sales & profit, with the ability to analyse sales figures, identify financial performance drivers & write reports;

  • A trading mentality, entrepreneurial spirit and ability to calculate and take risk, reviewing and reacting to sales maximising company potential;

  • A good knowledge of broad global sourcing, supplier & critical path and an understanding to drive the most commercially savvy & agile model;

  • The ability to network & influence people, internally & externally and build & strategically drive meaningful relationships;

  • Excellent skills in Supplier & Third-party negotiation, contract management & performance management.
