Lead and Drive as the responsible Engineer in all Engineering aspects of HS2 sitewide for Surfacing Operations. Ensuring safeworking procedures are adhered to.

Developing and reporting of programs and budgets and ensuring that the works are conducted safely.

Report to Surfacing Agent to keep Information accurate and up to date.

Subcontractor supervision / coordinate with other Section Engineers for day-to-day site activities

  • Suspends the works in case safety on site is not sufficient, environmental risk is detected or quality is compromised

    Engineering Control

  • Sublot representatives (ensure working areas are ready for Surfacing Gangs)

  • Ensures the compliance with technical and contractual requirements, especially with regards to Health & Safety and Environment

  • Maintains social peace on the section

  • Good knowledge and experience with Surfacing activities.


  • Overall management of Handover Documentation and Procedures for Section

  • Monitors Sub-contractor workmanship to ensure Right First-Time approach.

  • Productivity

  • Monitors performance, reporting progress

  • Approves and manages the correct implementation of the Risk Assessment Method Statements defined

  • Manages sub-contractor

Candidate Description

The following qualities/experience are desirable:


  • Able to clearly communicate the requirements of a safe system of work to ensure that these are followed accurately.

  • Takes ownership of tasks and communicates outcomes with clarity, direction and purpose.

  • Strong work ethic with flexibility to work unsociable hours/nights

  • Holds a current driving license and CSCS Card.

  • Excellent team player

  • Excellent role model for development of junior staff and demonstrates required behaviours to align to business, project and team objectives

  • Ability to use Total Stations for surveys and dip levels off pins / curbs.

    Health Safety & Environmental

  • Understands and reviews method statements and guides others in document production

  • Good working knowledge of current H & S legislation
