An exciting new opportunity has become available to join the New Business underwriting team where you are responsible for processes applications for Motor Dealers, and Brokers (our introducers). We only deal with appointed introducers, and do not deal direct with the end user.

Reporting to the Underwriting team leader, this position would be to assess and evaluate customer credit risk through in-depth analysis, making decisions within personal delegated authority. Ensuring appropriately high standards of credit and risk management are maintained in adherence to regulatory and internal business requirements.

What you'll be doing

  • Review and approve/decline credit proposals within individual approved credit authority

  • Assess and evaluate customer credit risk through in-depth business and financial analysis

  • Document and communicate credit decisions in a clear and effective manner within set timelines

  • Potential for site visits where appropriate

  • Interface with internal & external stakeholders to resolve credit related issues

  • To provide assistance and advice and where necessary, negotiate on deal structuring with a view to maximising the commercial opportunity without compromising credit quality standards

  • Be acutely familiar with the credit portfolio

  • To adhere to SCUK Credit Policy

  • Deal with or escalate any identified risks in relation to Santander Consumer risk policies and/or legislative and regulatory guidelines in accordance with the Santander UK group risk framework

  • Acts to develop customer relationships and seeks to exceed client's expectations

  • Handle telephone queries from supporting dealers and internal sales staff

Candidate Description

  • Knowledge of risk policy, systems and controls is desirable

  • A high level of accuracy and attention to detail

  • A commercial outlook when considering proposals using strong influencing and negotiation skills

  • In-depth understanding of the security against which we are being asked to provide funding utilising and interpreting the requirements as set by Retail Risk, Conduct Risk and Operational Risk is desirable.

  • Ability to build strong, meaningful business relationships

  • Ability to structure a proposal into a deal acceptable to all parties in a decisive and inquisitive manner

  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines

  • Ability to analyse & report on Financials using strong analytical and numerical skills is desirable

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and in writing

  • Highly numerate

  • Appropriate level of tertiary education

  • Sound time management

  • Understanding the treating customers fairly principles
