Quantity Surveyor
So you’re good with numbers. Not only that, you’re good at making other people understand numbers too. Such is the life of a quantity surveyor.
You will know the difference between a VLOOKUP and a Pivot Table (I am sure there is a Ross Geller joke in there somewhere, Pivot!), you will have held a similar role before and have or be working towards a degree in Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management (or similar QS degree).
As a quantity surveyor, you will be crucial in the validation of Actual Costs, with the review of Early Warning Notices, Notices of Compensation Events, and Compensation Events. You will be given the contractor’s quotations to Cost Assure and support in the substantiation of the contractor’s applications for payment.
Working in Gas Transmission offers some unique challenges. And the opportunity to work on some unique projects, from the largest infrastructure project Europe has ever seen in HS2, the decommissioning of our assets or new customer connections, to minor maintenance and upgrade works across the UK Gas National Transmission System. And with the transition to hydrogen and other forms of cleaner energy, who knows what else might be in the pipeline?
You’ll be home start, which means your primary location is your living room, or maybe your spare bedroom. You’ll travel nationally to site or one of our offices (such as our Warwick Head Office) as needed, and you’ll be in charge of the decisions on where and how often you travel. Sometimes you’ll want a tighter rein, and sometimes you’ll feel comfortable managing from afar.
Wherever you work from, you’ll be in a prime position to work your way up. If you’ve got your eyes on a lead quantity surveyor or commercial manager role one day, this can be your route there.
Speaking of flexibility, you’ll be working for a manager that understands there is a life outside of work. As long as your projects are on time and (more importantly for you) on budget, you’ll have the flexibility to do the things you need to do.

About us
We are National Gas, including National Gas Transmission and National Gas Metering.
In February 2023 we became a standalone business, to maintain and own the Gas Infrastructure in the UK. But more than that, to develop and grow this infrastructure to set us up for a cleaner energy future. A future of Hydrogen.
This means we are currently in a period of both opportunity and uncertainty. While nobody knows exactly what things will look like in a years’ time, those who join the business now will have a unique opportunity to shape the future of Gas Transmission in the UK.
Business separations take a long time, so you might still see some references to National Grid here and there. This is part of the process, and won’t make any difference to your application.
The closing date is 31st March, although in some cases I’ll close the ad early, so don’t delay.
I’ll respond to every single application.
