As Principal Test Engineer, you will directly support the development of the technology through the execution of test plans for verification, validation and development testing. The role will require you to work closely with the Test Capability and Test Strategy Teams to develop robust test plans and ensure the test stands are capable. BSc/MSc or BEng/MEng level in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or similar.
Chartered Engineer or on track to achieve Chartered status
Strong post graduate industrial experience.
Hands-on experience of testing and solid track record of delivering results in a development/industrial environment, preferably gained in the development of thermal systems or process industry.
Extensive experience of operating and programming test automation systems.
Experience of working with systems level testing of thermo/electrical systems.
Demonstrable practical application of a wide range of test technologies, including sensor technology, actuators, thermometry and system communications.
Ability to visualise and summarise data, perform basic sense checking, identify inconsistencies and perform basic thermodynamic calculations, e.g. efficiency, simple heat balances.
Knowledge of chemical and thermodynamic processes, control systems and instrumentation.
Ability to plan and manage work packages.
Highly proficient in technical communication and the preparation of technical reports.
Delivery-focused and highly motivated, capable of handling multiple priorities and working alone as well as part of a high-performing team.
Experience of leading the production of risk assessments and other similar safety tools, e.g. HAZID, HAZOP and FMEA.
Skilled in formal problem-solving methodologies.
Familiar with the use of design of experiments (DoE) and statistical analysis.
Highly proficient reading and producing technical documents including mechanical drawings, electrical schematics and P&IDs.
Sound understanding of engineering development processes and approaches to verification and validation.
Strong leadership skills and the ability to drive and motivate a team.
